I have the good fortune of being VERY, VERY busy these days. Our business model around here is gaining ground (while we’re also in the traditional CRE peak period). Put those together and we’re in the middle of a hurricane.
It can be easy to panic under the circumstances and assume that nothing can get done. And it’s true that in the typical multi-tasker mentality that 100 simultaneous projects cannot be completed working on them all at once. In that circumstance there is only one solution – stop multi-tasking.
In our world delivery is king. Getting solutions out the door is the only way to get paid. Therefore you have to set expectations even when that will make you the most unpopular person around (and don’t forget to under-promise and over-deliver even still). It’s easy to try to bite off too much and hope that you get it all done. But this helps no one and will only destroy your future credibility.
Don’t destroy your credibility. Prioritize and get what you can out the door today and let everything else just simply wait. If you can’t get it done why even try to show progress?
