Broken Clocks

How long until later generations no longer understand the phrase:  “A broken clock is right twice a day”?  How long until the grandfather clock goes the way of the slide rule and there’s only one manufacturer left making commemorative  editions occasionally that no one buys?

A bit pumped up about real estate connectivity

Real estate is like a living organism.  It’s impossible for any one person or group to really understand everything that you need to know to predict what should happen next.  Anyone who thinks they have the magic answer either isn’t qualified to actually make an informed answer or should be making millions in Vegas. The…

The mark-up

I’m going to go off-topic a bit from what I normally write about and mention a brief experience I just had with T-Mobile and technology.  I don’t think this is limited to just T-Mobile but it’s an experience that seems too common in our modern world. My phone is Android.  I’ve been on Android since…

Why not more real estate?

I get asked a lot by people what I write about and invariably I say mostly real estate but it can get pretty tangential.  The thing is, it’s all real estate.  General business blogs are real estate focused.  Lean/Six Sigma blogs are real estate focused.  Business operations and finance blogs are real estate focused.  But…

Why Challenge Current Thinking?

Some people like to go with the herd.  What everyone else does is fine with them.  It’s part of what is driving the Cult of Apple (although it helps that they also make great products).  It’s what prevents innovation. When people fall in line with current thinking on the “correct” way of doing things and…

Really? Does SEO actually matter?

SEO – Search Engine Optimization.  Those into the blog scene hear about it all the time one way or another.  People either “follow” the rules or don’t.  But the Google traffic is seen as the golden goose. But really, does it matter?  Do you get popular because you get a few dozen hits from Google…

CRE and Standing Still

I’ve been working more and more in the site selection space over the past 3 years.  The methodologies are all consistent and are returning some interesting and unique opportunities for our clients which is always exciting.  But as I dig in more and get deeper it’s amazing how the core analysis fundamentals were developed over…

Continuing my wandering ramblings on leadership.

As individuals we desire to increase our personal skills and experience to maximize our ability to move up to bigger and better positions and roles.  To do this we often align ourselves with what our manager’s want us to be instead of what the organization needs us to be.  A belief has arisen that we…

Some wandering thoughts on leadership.

Some great sessions at the IAMC Spring 2012 last week still have me thinking a week later.  Specifically they have me thinking about “what is leadership.”  These days there are any number of “leadership” experts who talk generally about the topic.  The leading groups for this seems to be the Harvard Business Review or Deloitte or McKinsey…

Sometimes the longest weeks are also the most productive.

You ever have those really busy weeks where you still end up with more work at the end than you started with?  It seems like most of my crazy busy weeks are like that and I spend the weekend just trying to get back to neutral.  Somehow this week was the opposite – the really…
