Today marks two milestones for me. This is my 300th post on BoxThoughts and it is also the 1 year anniversary of when I made the decision to write daily. Looking back I can’t believe that I’ve actually achieved that goal between work schedules, real life and a lack of noticeable readership growth or activity. But regardless, blogging daily has been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made (even though I don’t QUITE average a full 1 post per day).
I have never felt more creative than the past 12 months. The thoughts that churn to the surface when you force yourself to find topics to write about are fascinating products of the subconscious, current events, active projects and wild day dreams. Sometimes it falls but sometimes I end up with a month long creative streak focused on something ridiculously cool.
Then there is the occasional unexpected feedback. There is nothing better than external validation of a decision. I have heard from a number of people that they read what I write and enjoy it. That’s a win. That’s a win that goes a long way.
And you know what, my writing abilities have improved. When writing for clients I find it easier to put my thoughts to paper and usually it comes out clearer, quicker and more refined on the first draft than ever before. Instead of taking 4 or more hours to knock out a new proposal it takes 1 to 2 and gives a higher quality. And all it costs me is an average of about 15 to 30 minutes each day. Shorter than most coffee breaks!
So with that I wander back to my little hide-away to get back to work. There’s still stuff to get out the door, clients to please and money to make. But it’s somehow extremely pleasing to know that come Monday I’ll have another opportunity to spit out my own personal whatevers.
Well done keep it up. Greetings from Thailand. K
