Zuckerberg’s the “Hacker Way”

So this has been making the rounds, but I think it puts the new technology world into perspective.  Only now are the old guard industries beginning to realize what the Information Revolution is all about.  It’s not a digital revolution, it’s all about information.  Facebook (love it or hate it) is an enabler of personal information. When Mark Zuckerberg talks about the Hacker Way in his IPO announcement he might as well be speaking for me.

Mark nails it on the head when too many people focus on getting things right and avoiding mistakes instead of simply shipping.  Get things out to market even if it is only 50% complete.  Create the concept and deliver.  Use feedback to then drive it to completion.  I haven’t worked on a project or development yet that didn’t change near the end.  Having a more full perspective changing what the last 20 to 50% is supposed to be.  You can’t have full visibility on Day 0.  Don’t pretend that you are going to be right without alpha and beta versions.

I’m not a Facebook fan.  I spend little time there.  But this letter should speak to everyone – technology company, real estate company, manufacturers, marketers, even independents. This is about where the world is going.  You can either get on the train or you can step off now because the world is going to be owned by those the best understand information – and can make use of it.
