I’m not sure it matters to most but this weekend I’ll be leaving Atlanta where I’ve lived for the past 16 years. Moved here before the summer Olympics came to town. High school, college, first job, current job – all in Atlanta. What can I say, it’s home.
South Carolina, here I come!
My beautiful wife is from the Palmetto State which I will soon be calling home. Therefore this week has been the requisite “goodbye” week. Friends, colleagues, co-workers (even though I’m not changing jobs – just desk locations!), teammates from my 6 year running pool team. It’s been crazy. Luckily (I suppose) no family here in Atlanta anymore which makes everything a bit easier.
It isn’t possible to say goodbye to people you don’t feel like you’re really leaving.
My desk is almost cleaned out. Our apartment is pretty much packed up. It’s official. No going back. But that still doesn’t mean goodbyes. There’s too much. So I just want to say thanks. To everyone. Because that’s all I can do. And if you have my phone number you sure better call. If you have my email address, keep the pictures of cats rolling in! If you know where I live, the wife and I have extra rooms, stop on in. Thanks.
But even then, thanks isn’t enough either.
Sometimes you have to step back and remember that nothing is ever over. Sometimes its about keeping what you have and adding something new on top. Hopefully it isn’t impossible.
