What issues matter to me?

It has been an interesting political cycle so far and I have a feeling that it is only going to get worse.  At this point I’ve lived all political spectrums and I’m now choosing to classify myself as an Oliverian (I buy into the philosophies of John Oliver (yes, the entertainer on HBO)).  This means the issues I care about can be fairly summed up as:

  • Politicians need a basic knowledge of technology systems including security and encryption.
  • Acknowledgement that individual concerns over government data collection needs to be addressed publicly.
  • Climate change and income inequality cannot be ignored by just saying they “don’t exist” and “don’t matter” respectively.
  • The system is stacked against anyone who is not in the majority.
  • Institutions are neither good nor bad – but people in authority can sometimes do horrific things to other people.
  • Companies that work closely with government regulators care more about their regulator friends than their customers.

Basically all the topics that affect life as most people live it.  Things that affect the businesses and how they operate.  Issues are always multi-faceted.  Anyone too obsessed with a single story is always wrong.  I don’t know who the right answer is for any given political office because we are likely being lied to by every politician currently running but it’s worth knowing what you care about so you can listen for data points.
