I’m a big believer that effective communication is the number 1 driver of success in almost every industry, role, career, and aspect of life. If you cannot effectively communicate, no one will ever be able to understand you. If no one can understand you, then they cannot understand your actions.
Effective communication doesn’t mean that you cannot be shy and quiet. It means that you know how to effectively get your message across. That could be through a single word. It could be through targeted 1 on 1 conversations. It could simply be by proxy word of mouth. Effective doesn’t have to mean lots of.
Actions are not always as easy to interpret as people believe. Bad people do good things for bad reasons. Good people do bad things for misguided reasons. Neutral people do random things for random reasons. Trying to understand a person through their actions is often futile. A bad action could be because of intention, lack of understanding by them, lack of understanding by you, belief the action is complete when it’s only half through. Without context it is often difficult to know.
Communication is what provides context. Sure, the communication may be a misdirect as well. But at least it provides a second data point for understanding. The more information you have over time, the better you can be at making informed decisions.
