Technology is great. However, many fabulous advancements go completely unutilized and die early deaths because no one can figure out how to use them (I’m looking at you Google Wave).
User Experience (UX) or Industrial Design (ID) are the philosophies of taking the geeky, nerdy, specialist advancement and making it something that someone will actually use. When done right it’s not just that people want to use it, they crave using it. Their life is improved by using it.
Sometimes it’s as simple as reinventing the Rolodex for a new purpose. Reinvention through UX is as powerful as innovating through the tech itself.
