The Best versus the Best Team

Tonight’s championship game sparks some thoughts on teams and platforms.  The teams at odds both have unique styles and approaches to trying to win a title.  One seemingly relies heavily on “the best players” while the other focuses on “team and experience.”

We won’t know which approach is better or worse tonight – all we’ll really know is that one team beat another on a given night.  But it should serve as a moment to think about your own teams.  Do you focus on the strongest individual performers and mold them into a team or do you try to get team players and help them perform at their highest capabilities?  Do you take a hybrid approach?

The question goes straight to the culture you are trying to create.  Teams are hard to create.  High performance teams are even harder to create and maintain.  A deliberate approach is necessary because teams don’t usually just happen.  Teams require nurturing and development.  They need leaders who will guide them.  They need a plan to follow.

While we all think about that just remember one thing…..GO BIG BLUE!
