Most of the time around this time of year I focus on the things that I am thankful for today and right now. For whatever the reason this year I’ve been looking back a lot more. I’ve been very lucky and blessed along my path for those that have helped me get where I am now. This is for them.
I have a lot going for me, from the independence I learned in Middle School and High School. For the lessons from Georgia Tech that were quite painful on the psyche but ultimately gave me that much more confidence. To my internships and first job after college. Everything has led me to where I am now.
It was a lot of work on my part but it was as much if not more due to the luck that I experienced along the way. I can state unequivocally that if 5 or 7 coin-flip type events in my life had gone the other way that I would not be in the position that I am in now.
That’s the thing, all of us owe so much to luck (both good and bad) that we have to be thankful for fate bringing us to where we are. Our parents, where we live, the breaks we got in life, the random strangers that turned into friends, the former friends who come back around. It’s what we do with the luck we are given that makes us who we are.
Some people absolutely do not get the lucky breaks. Others get them at exactly the wrong time. Still others are waiting for their break even as they continue to pass them by.
Thank back to all of your lucky breaks and make sure you return them to the others that come around looking for the same. There is no such thing as a self-made man or woman. We were all given the ability to get where we are through any number of events.
