Stepping up and owning “that’s on me” is one of the toughest but most important jobs in the business world. No one likes to fail and mistakes are stupid failures. But regardless it’s important to step up and own something.
Delegating everything to others (including the responsibility of failure) is not a skill. It’s a business survival instinct honed to allow its practitioners to swim corporate waters and appear to be extremely successful. I have seen many projects completely fall apart simply because there was no one owning responsibility of what was happening.
Own your work. Own your responsibilities. Failure will happen but failure is not usually bad. It’s a tough lesson that in the end it will make each of us and everyone around us better.
