Take the road less traveled

When faced with a location decision, at some point you will be faced with the question of do you want to be near your competitors or off on your own?  For many retailers they often choose the route of being near others with similar businesses.  Furniture stores often want to be within less than a mile of each other because customers enjoy the ability to go from one to the next to see what all is available.

Similarly, call centers often want to be in the same cities as each other.  They run high turnover businesses where training is important.  Letting competitors train their workforce seems very appealing.  Yes, they are also training their competitors’ workforce, but that’s just part of doing business.  Look to Phoenix AZ.  Lots of the biggest corporations have setup large call centers there.  Lately, more have been looking to the cities and regions where there are no other call centers.

To be near others or to take the road less traveled.  That’s the question you will eventually face.  To take the safe choice or to make the decision that sets you apart.  It’s not easy, but can position you for greater success.
