SPAM in the age of technological innovation

We often think of SPAM as being an email phenomenon (or a food if you go that way).  But it’s not.  SPAM is anything which interrupts our lives with no value add.  Many new technology innovations are focused on making communications easier or packaging them differently.

Watch out.  It’s a trap!

Once you are labeled as a spammer it can be nearly impossible to lose the title.  Trying to adopt some new technology but using it to send out the same tired, boring and useless messages is only going to paint you into the spammer corner.  Yes, you could be the first spammer of that new system that was just released yesterday.  Worse, you may not even realize it!  Facebook is full of spammers.  Google+ doesn’t seem as bad yet.  Twitter….well we can all identify those.

So think carefully about how you plan to use any new system.  It could put you in a bad position with your peers or your target audience.
