One of the hardest things to do in a job is to scrap everything previously put together or thought about and start with the creation of an entirely new foundation. Why reinvent Quality Assurance programs when Lean and Six Sigma exist and obviously do quite well in many environments? If they don’t match exactly what you need, is it better to match what you do to their framework or start with something brand new of your own invention?
The problem is, if you don’t choose to start over, what you end up compromising may just be those things that make you unique. The very reason the system doesn’t fit you exactly may be the things that are your differentiators that made you successful. It can be hard to throw everything out and start over, but sometimes it’s better than the alternative.
