Really? Does SEO actually matter?

SEO – Search Engine Optimization.  Those into the blog scene hear about it all the time one way or another.  People either “follow” the rules or don’t.  But the Google traffic is seen as the golden goose.

But really, does it matter?  Do you get popular because you get a few dozen hits from Google early on or do you get popular because you have good ideas, content and guidance?  It’s number 2.  It doesn’t matter how good your SEO is if your content sucks.  Ask about.com.  They are pretty well optimized and get a lot of Google juice but really – how much influence do they have?

If you have the content and ideas but no SEO you’ll still make it.  It may take a little longer and you need more patience but good rises to the top.  Stop worrying about the algorithms and start worrying about how good you are.
