My favorite thing about working in CRE.

I’ve been in a reflective mood recently as I continue trying to adjust to a new role.  But within the reflective mood I constantly come back to the fact that CRE exists within the center of all things an organization does.

My favorite thing about CRE is that I need to understand everything about a business if I’m going to put together the right solutions.

I need to understand their financial motivations.  I need to understand how their employees work.  I need to understand their expected growth.  I need to understand mergers and acquisitions.  I need to understand how their business may change in the next 2 to 5 years.  I need to understand the politics of how decisions are made.

This is a lot to take in for the work that I do.  There is no way to take shortcuts.  There is no way to give half solutions.  Either would be immediately obvious within the context of any given solution.

CRE is a challenge which makes it fun.  The best part of CRE is that I’m constantly under the pressure of really understanding the core of a business so that I don’t give an answer that is simply wrong.
