Make it pretty. Everything is marketing.

Let’s say we have a choice between two products that have the same specifications and cost.  Both come from companies you trust and have bought from before.  When everything is equal, people buy based on which looks better for the function.

How you put together your solution matters.  A clean, slick package beats out industrial packaging every time.  It doesn’t take a lot longer but it does take some time.  This is true for products, marketing brochures, project presentations, written documents, blog posts or LinkedIn profiles.

When something looks thought through people assume that it is thought through.  This is the same reasoning that so many executives wear suits – it provides a professional appearance.

Of course the opposite is also true – a more casual appearance also portrays a certain package that has a different connotation.  Packaging can also portray a more casual, laid back personality.  It all comes down to what message you are trying to pass across.
