Lessons from an Icon

Steve Jobs has stepped down as CEO of Apple and it’s the end of an era in Silicon Valley.  But this move will send waves through many, many industries.

There are going to be lots of stories and lessons learned and myths coming out in the next few weeks about the impact Steve Jobs had on the world.  Keep them in mind because they will all be true.  The secret to Steve Jobs is that it turns out he was more than just a leader and visionary.  He has cultivated a mystical side that transcends his company, industry and position.

But at the end of the day, Steve Jobs was a rebel.  He didn’t let others set his path.  He didn’t worry about what came before.  He was only focused on building products that met a need and were almost art – and he did it everywhere he went.

Next week, step outside of your comfort zone and do something that no one else has done in your industry.  Do something that you know serves a market need even if no one else is doing it.  Do it with passion, ignore the critics and just try.  If it works….just ask Steve Jobs what comes next.
