Just because #CRE technology isn’t best-in-class yet doesn’t mean it has no value. #realcomm

Yesterday I (a bit emphatically for me) made the case that CRE technology is 10 years behind.  I’m not changing my position, just following up with what that means for you.

Because we are so far behind, every technology advance does move the ball forward.  New tools really are breaking new ground (and occassionally just breaking) and pushing the entire industry forward.  But those new tools are going to be leapfrogged in 12 months because there is so much innovation taking place.

Diligence is of the highest order with CRE technology.  Diligence to ensure you are keeping up.  Diligence to ensure you don’t sign-up for something that will hold you back in the future.  Diligence to be open to change as new capabilities are brought to the market.

It’s an exciting time but everything really should be about you right now.  Don’t let someone trap you into their new solution that is going to be passed 3 years from now.  Look for open standards and transferable systems.

Enjoy the ride!
