How often are you nervous about the job you have?

Here’s a good new metric for you – how often are you nervous as you sit down at your keyboard to start a new day?  If you are comfortable every day you are in the office you aren’t pushing your limits.  Going in to do the same comfortable tasks is never going to help you realize your potential.

But then, the opposite is true of being uncomfortable everyday that you go into work.  That may imply that you probably have a position that you aren’t ready for yet.  It may be time to reassess what you want to be doing.

Optimally you are challenging yourself multiple times a month.  Maybe it’s once a week.  Maybe it’s more, maybe it’s less.  But the key is to feel nervous.

Not knowing with certainty that you are going to be successful will help you better find your current limits and push them.  Take a chance that no one thought that you could succeed in just to see if you can do it.  What’s the harm?  No one thought you’d be able to do it anyway.
