Engineer Week! – Pocket Protectors?

Fashion is not a strong topic for most engineers.  Needless to say, many of us are known for lack of color coordination let alone forward fashion sense.  For me the traditional grey or navy suit with a white or blue shirt is about all I go for.  I know it matches, looks good and goes with about any type of tie my wife could choose for me.

So what kind of fashion advice could I give to those engineers out there?  Not much, I’ll be honest.  But what I can do is recommend how to go with the flow and the key is comfort.  Many of us choose our dressy outfits because it’s what we’re supposed to have.  There’s nothing worse than wearing an outfit that makes you feel awkward and uncomfortable.  That uncomfortableness passes along during meetings and doesn’t put you in good light.

There are always going to be times that you have to go for the formal attire.  But that doesn’t mean we have to go for the traditional.  We can still take the time to find our own look.  There are options beyond the button up shirt, tight collar and tie.  Find the ones that work for you and make them your own.  Go out, look good and above all….

Make it work!
