CRE Tech Rule 10: If it’s broke, fix it!

If it’s broke, fix it!

And finally we come to the end.  The ultimate rule that guides our hands.  A rule so important that all reading this probably live by it already.

If it’s broke, fix it.

It applies to technology, it applies to life, it applies to our industry.  This is the rule that should drive all of us all day and night.  It’s the rule that pushes us to work 90 hour weeks.  It’s the rule that causes us to want to do better.  No other rule can even compare to this one.

No one becomes an entrepreneur just to make money.  No one builds a new application “just because.”  They do it to solve a problem.  They do it to make the world just a little bit better.  It’s what we are all striving for at the end of the day.  It’s why we work for our customers.  Because at the end of the assignment we can walk away knowing that we’ve made their world a little bit better.  We’ve done something right.

If it’s broke, fix it.

That’s what everything we do comes to.  It’s not to say that everything must be perfect.  It’s to say that we should always be striving for something better.  No matter what, do better.  Apply something new.  Bring in another expert.  Push the boundaries of the scope.  Make your boss unhappy by going the extra mile for the client because you know you can for not much extra.  PUSH!

It’s why we are all here.

It’s certainly why I’m here.
