I was down in Austin TX this week at the spring IAMC (Industrial Asset Management Council) conference. I don’t do a lot of events like this yet (definitely need to do better with my networking!) so it was a great learning experience, both in the classroom and from the interactions with others in the industry. Learned a few new tricks, saw a lot of discussion about the role generational differences have in long term business success, and just generally learned a lot about what’s happening across the entire country.
Just as an aside, the groups across Texas know how to plan events. Several of the state economic development groups came together to host the conference and boy did they pull it off. Not a dull moment the entire time and usually we were sitting around just wondering what was coming next because every session and every day was better than the list.
So the point of this is – IAMC is a great organization that was less focused on the networking and more on the learning. I was definitely surprised at how little sales was going on over the 4 days. Very relaxed environment. Might have to find a way to Omaha in the Fall for the next one….
