About Me

My name is David Music and everything in here is something I wrote for myself and whoever happens to stumble down this rabbit hole with me.  

I’ve worked in the world of Corporate Real Estate (CRE) for over fifteen years now and I spend most of my days thinking on the subject from any number of angles. I happen to think it is a topic that is too rarely explored in-depth.I am not a real estate broker. Never have been and don’t plan to become one. However, I did work on the service provider side of this world working with and around brokers. It’s a world I understand well and part of why you will see any number of posts explaining that Corporate Real Estate and Commercial Real Estate are two separate industries.

Throughout my career, I’ve done everything from CAD, Supply Chain, Transporation, Portfolio Strategy, Workforce Planning, Construction Management, Program Management, Software Development, M&A Strategy/Delivery, etc, etc, etc. It’s a pretty broad range within a very large world.  

Over the years, I have become more and more focused on the intersection of technology, strategy, and day-to-day service delivery.  For a function that is 10 to 20% of an organization’s cost, CRE can sometimes receive very little support from groups such as IT, finance, HR, and procurement.  By focusing on the intersection of process, people, and technology we can make things better.

CRE happens to touch everything that an organization does. So expect me to write about whatever pops into my head on the day but you will see heavy leanings toward technology and process improvement.  Although I caution you, things will often go on seemingly random tangents simply because CRE can really be anything at all.
