The Natural Order is to Simplify over time.

Had an all-day session this week with a new team that we brought on board.  It’s exciting because they are already pushing us in some new directions.  But it is also interesting to see that they are doing some of the things we were doing 3 to 5 years ago when we were smaller and more agile.

In hindsight, our organization has moved in a lot of natural directions: simplification, productization and scalability.  None of those are conducive to highly technical studies that need to be updated and changed per project.  But those highly technical studies are also what are needed for specialized projects and hold bearing on how we should be approaching new development.

It’s good to be pushed again and it is yet another reason to dust off some of the old work to search for inspiration for what the future should hold.  It’s weird to go backwards in search of where the future is headed but it’s also surprisingly appropriate.
