One of the things I have often found to be true is that teams outperform individuals. Let’s quickly define performance – outcome + schedule + budget. Put those together and you have performance.
Many superstar employees prefer to travel their own road though. The frustration of leading people not at their level overcomes the long term results. The important note though is that the superstar may bring their individualerformance down but they are simultaneously improving the performance of the rest of the team.
It’s this elevation that is key. The net performance is greater. Thinking selflessly in the short term maximizes the overall.
What a concept. If only more people practiced it.
