What is CRE Integration?

Buzzwords can tell you the current pulse of an industry and help you identify trends as they are happening.  The new one in CRE is “Integration”.

Integration has come to mean a lot of things to a lot of different people.  Ultimately it’s simply a corporate CRE department looking for a partner to help them manage all of the many, many moving parts that make up the modern CRE environment.

I compare Integration partners to modern smartphone operating systems.  Their job is to take the wide world of applications, user requests, phone/internet device functions and accessories and make them work seamlessly for the consumer.  An Integrator should do the same thing – pulling together brokers, project managers, facility managers, technology providers and put them into an effective group.

It’s a great thought, but very difficult to execute against.  There are few companies that can really demonstrate the credentials to do it right.  If you are going out looking for an Integrator make sure you do your homework – and not just the standard RFP Q&A.
